Day

The sensation is like being dragged through a cloud. A heavy, roiling nimbus which pervades your eyes, your ears, your skin, and what feels like your very soul. Or what's left of it.

Your eyes squeeze shut and when they open....well you know this place already, there was much ado about lampposts in this square not too long ago. But what you haven't known in how many weeks is the sun hanging high overhead, not stuck in a perpetual state of Twilight but properly shining in the sky.

The sun feels good and you feel more whole than you have in a while. Those are all inexplicably good things, and they should be celebrated. But the mark on your body, faded but still visible warns of something still more to come. And for those who have been missing a part of themselves for longer than that..it's just a whisper of a feeling, but it is very much real.

Welcome to Krakow, for real this time. For however long it lasts, at least.

Humans are weak, and will always reach for shortcuts and leaning on whatever else they can rather than reaching for what they need themselves.

I know sometimes sacrifices are necessary, but you saw her smile, right? How do we know that the woman's death wasn't part of her plan?

Because it seemed part of her plan was to open that gate and expose herself to the Abyss, and not even her soul could make it.

She wasn't strong enough to prevent the takeover of her own body. Therefore, her body was forfeit.

That's one way to look at it, I suppose. But I can still wish there could have been a better outcome.

You're right. Dwelling on the 'what could have been' helps nobody. All we can do is move forward now.

If we get our powers back anytime soon, I certainly will be trying to see what her plans were. Call me paranoid, but this feels like it was too easy. If I can at least make sure she was stopped for good, then that will be enough.
